A Rose Garden Trio of Birthday Cards

Here’s three different cards created from one paper stack: Rose Garden by First Edition. All three designs are my own; it was great fun to come up with them and create them. The Rose Garden paper is truly lovely, very feminine and romantic. Very suitable for my aunt and my cousin, who have their birthdays in August.

The designs are very stylish, their contruction kept lean and with very little embellishments. It’s my way of allowing the beauty of the paper to speak for itself.

There’ll be a tutorial of the third card in one of my upcoming September projects (Natural History Adventure Ultra Mini Album), where it’ll be a mini album page design. But it works as a card just as well! So stay tuned if you want to learn how to make one… 😉

Anyway, here’s the video – hope you feel inspired by these cards 🙂

Quick scrap: Butterfly tag card

One of the interesting thing about tags is that you don’t have to use them as tags necessarily. I’ve seen people make mini tag albums with them, hang them from Christmas trees, use them as photo mats.

And here’s yet another use: they also make great birthday cards – you can in fact make one in less than an hour, which would make it a quick scrap project in my book! 🙂

Materials used: cardstock, design paper (Bo Bunny’s Country Garden), Tim Holtz On the Edge dies (Butterflight and Plaque & Postage), embossing folder, embellishments, Tim Holtz distress ink (Frayed Burlap).

Let me know if you have any questions!

Happy Birthday – A very special folds card (Step Card)

I created this card after an example I saw in a Kaisercraft flyer. First I experimented with normal white printing paper until I got the scoring and cutting lines right – and then I went for the real thing 😉
To create one yourself, just freeze frame when I show you the “naked card”!

The paper I used is K&Company’s lovely Que Sera Sera collection – the same design paper I used for my boxed mini album!

Birthday wallet or Mini Album Page Insert

Here’s another Mom’s Home Original – that is, I created and filmed this project at my mom’s 🙂 Therefore the paper is by Colours Unlimited again, since that little paper pad is the only one my mom has.

This paper wallet is definitely multi-functional: you can either use it as an elaborate birthday card, as I have in this video, or you can designate it to be a bonus project for one of your mini albums – for you could very easily use this as a mini album page insert! Cool…

Saying Happy Birthday in red, white & black

My mother recently bought this one little paper pad, which she doesn’t use at all but keeps around for when I’m visiting – just in case I get a scrapping itch that needs scratching 🙂
So here’s my first project with that 6×6 inch Colours Unlimited paper pad!
More will surely follow….

This first one is a pocket-style birthday card, with lots of tags and other niceness! Created and filmed at my mother’s, so this is a Mom’s Home Original, so to speak 🙂
Enjoy!

4-fold Tutorial: Gatefold card, magnet closure, ribbon pull and pattern pocket

Hi gals & guys, I have another tutorial for you! This, my latest How to video, shows you how to make a great gatefold card for a guy. As you’re no doubt aware we can hardly send the men in our lives a card with ribbons, roses and other girly knick-knacks now can we? 🙂 Therefore this card does not have any dimensional embellishments – but instead a much more “manly” magnet closure. Another tip for masculine embellishments: screw brads. They’re absolutely cool – there’s an example at the end of the video, in the second gatefold card I’m showing.

Also in this How to video, a ribbon pull, plus what I’ve dubbed a pattern pocket – by which I mean a hidden pocket, created by making use of the pattern in the paper.

You can of course choose your own measurements, it’s the basic principle that counts.

Design paper: A Proper Gentleman by Graphic 45, inked around the edges with Black Soot distress ink by Tim Holtz.

Hope this helps you all! Let me know what you think and if you’ll make your own gatefold card based on this tutorial – please let me know if you have any questions!

A cute little all occasions photo booklet

This little booklet is a cute alternative for a card: you can add little tags to write a personal message, and even add some photos or other nice pictures. So, Happy Birthday, or Happy Any Other Occasion! 🙂 It’s also a great alternative for using your scraps – next to, for instance, making scrap mats or other kinds of scrap decorations.

Of course you can make your own little booklet quite easily, feel free to come and get some inspiration from my tutorial for mini booklets if you’ve never made one yourself.

Anyway, here’s the video – P.S.: don’t forget to hit the like button underneath it! 😉

A lovely gatefold pocket card

This cute little gatefold pocket card went straight into the altered gift box I showed you in my previous blog post. I designed it myself, using Graphic 45’s gorgeously colorful Bohemian Bazaar design paper, on hot blue cardstock. You’ll also see some of my scrap mats again, in fact, this card is the end result of the project I was actually working on in my scrap mat tutorial, so check it out!

Thanks to its multiple pockets, this gatefold card will also serve great as a gift card holder as well.

For a tutorial on how to make this gatefold card, check out this blogpost here.

Thank you for liking and subscribing, and please let me know what you think!

In the video I mention my tutorial on how to print text on small tags or scraps of your design paper, you can find said tutorial here.

Note on video quality: Most of my videos are 720p; the rest is 540p. If you don’t get one of these resolutions while viewing the video on this blog but instead have to make due with some rather unsharp videos, you should be able to adjust video quality by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the video player, and selecting your preferred quality. If you don’t have the gear icon, then click the Youtube sign, also in the bottom right corner of the video player. This will take you directly to Youtube, where you’ll be able to change the video quality with the gear icon after all. Hope this helps.

Warm Winter Wishes – all occasions card

Sometimes we’re surprised by an invitation from a friend to come celebrate something with her. Like in this case, my friend invited me to dinner in her new house – that same evening! So I needed a quick card that wouldn’t take me the whole day to finish. The Tilda Winterbird cards & tags pad offered just the right solution, I embellished one of the cards while following the original pattern of the card itself, simply adding texture and dimension.

Most of the flowers and other embellishments are from nameless brands in my stash, but two of them are by Prima Marketing: the rose in the right hand corner is from Prima’s Rondelle collection; the larger cream flower just above that is from their Songbird collection.

Cute birthday booklet

Although at the moment designing and creating mini albums, cards and altered objects are my main focus when it comes to paper crafting, I really like the occasional mini (or even micro) booklet as well. This one for instance, with its 1 5/8 x 2 1/4 inches (4,3×5,7 cm) is the tiniest I’ve created yet. And it still has pockets & tags! 🙂

I used Madeline design paper by Prima Marketing, the same as with my Madeline cinch mini. This would also make it a great companion piece to this mini, for instance as an alternative birthday card.

So please enjoy the two-minute video!

By the way, in the video I refer to my Bohemian Bazaar mini booklet – which you van check out in more detail in my blogpost on the Bohemian Bazaar mini album.

Want to create your own micro booklet? Then check out my tutorial on this blog!

Poetry birthday card “Mariposa”

A birthday card of my own design, using the gor-ge-ous Mariposa design paper stack by DCWV – the paper I also used in my recent Keepsake mini album.

There are two poems in the card, one of the front, one inside a flip tag. Both are printed of course, as is the tag containing the birthday wishes.

By the way, I tend to view designing a card the same way I approach creating page layouts for my mini albums, and this card is no exception. I guess it’s my personal style 😉
Take a look, and see what I mean 🙂

What kind of particular personal style do you have when it comes to creating your cards?

Flip card in Red

This is a cute little flip card I made in a lovely red color scheme, ideal for Valentine’s Day or any other love & romance theme! It has two flaps that close with magnets and its last “page” has a little pocket.

Well, ’nuff said, let’s go to the two-minute video!

By the way, you can find the tag card I’m referring to in the video here.
