My first Christmas card this year

There have been years that I’d finished all of my Christmas cards by September – having started as early as July – and heaps of them at that. (You can check them out here.)
But not this year. This year I’ve only just finished my very first Christmas card last week. What can I say, I’m not crafting as much as I used to – though one of my new year’s resolutions is More Crafting, so I remain hopeful. 😇

I have to say it was fun to create again, after many moons with hardly any papercrafting at all (except for the occasional card here & there, which I posted here, on my blog).

Here are my design steps:

1. I started by shopping my stash and I found this fresh & modern looking design paper by S.E.I., called Kris Kringle. It is no longer available, however I’m hoping it will inspire you – either to shop your own stash for some great finds, or to shop for similar design papers that evoke the same atmosphere if you like these specific papers.

2. Some baby blue cardstock became a nice base for the card, echoing the occasional light blue the design papers offered and off-setting the rest of the colors nicely.

3. I wanted a special card design so I decided on this slanted tri-fold shape and folded it ‘zigzaggingly’ (I don’t know the official term but I think you’ll catch my drift 😉 ).

4. One of my label dies came in handy to add a stamped sentiment to the front of the card.

5. Tri-fold shapes are always fun because they give you six panels to mat and play with your design papers! You’ll have to keep your embellishments flat however, otherwise your card won’t fit into its envelope. Stamping is a good option of course, as would be (heat) embossing or adding some ink sprays.

In conclusion

All in all I had fun, maybe even more than I expected. It was nice to think about a specific friend and design a card with them in mind. What shape hadn’t they seen from me yet, what colors would they like and what kind of sentiment would they appreciate. Happy thoughts to be pondering.

I’ve found again and again that tailor-making a craft project for a specific person adds an extra dimension of inspiration and fun to my craft projects. Maybe this can be the way forward for me – and who knows, perhaps for you too! – for the foreseeable future, to find some much needed inspiration again!

I might even do some video tutorials again on my Youtube channel (which I always embed on the blog too), so let me know if you’d like one for this type of card – or mini album insert of course, whichever might fit your needs best!

Shopping My Stash: Easter / Spring Tea Wallet Card

This year I sent three Easter cards to friends and family. The first two I already shared in one of my previous posts. This week I’m sharing the third, which is a wallet card, or a tea bag holder card, or whatever other creative descriptive you can come up with 🙂

Also, I shopped my stash again, one of this year’s themes for me personally, in order to actually use up the forgotten-but-beautiful-nonetheless papers in my collection.

It turned out pretty lovely, and of course I filled it up with some fresh tea, as is my way – because I just love to send my friends a Hug-in-a-Mug!

Anyway, here’s the video – ask any questions or leave a remark in the comment section below!

Purchase or Pass: Mintay’s new Graceful collection

With Valentine’s and spring around the corner, many design paper brands are announcing their new collections, no doubt generating a whole new wave of desire, temptation and all out shopping sprees among us, their doting clients 🙂

Which is why I thought I’d try my hand at a new series, which I think I’m going to call Purchase or Pass. The idea is that I’ll be making up my mind “live” on camera whether or not to buy one such new collection, shopping my stash and sharing my thought process with you all.

Let me know if this kind of video is helpful to you and if you would be interested in seeing more of where this came from! If you’d like me to make up my mind on a specific collection (perhaps one you yourself are tempted by) let me know in the comments below!

This episode: Mintay’s Graceful collection

Mintay will be coming out with four new collections, one of which is called Graceful. It’s a lovely, romantic, lavender & light turquoise spring collection, with their gorgeous, signature graphic design style.

To make up my mind whether I’ll purchase this or whether I can resist the temptation, I’ll be comparing it to several collection from my stash, of which I’ll show some pictures below.

Enjoy the video, stay crafty!

Collections I found after shopping my stash

Studio Light: La Provence (several sheets)

Stash Chronicles: pt. 1 – Paper Collection Overview (and how I keep track of all of it)

Happy New Year everyone! 🙂

One of the ideas I’m considering for my blog and Youtube channel, is something I mentioned briefly in one of my recent videos, namely: to log my journey towards buying less papercraft stuff, and shopping my stash more instead.

Although 2021 will not be a No Buy year for me by any means – I’m also a paper collector after all 😉 – I still want to use more of what I already own, instead of growing my collection while never using it.

Well, we’ll see how it goes. Like I said, it’s a journey. 😉

Also, it gives me the opportunity to share the (joy of the) collecting side of papercrafting: how to store, categorize and most importantly keep track of everything my paper supply comprizes. I’m of course hoping this will be of some use to you too!

Anyway, here’s to the start of this new year for me, I hope you’ll accompany me on my travels for as long as you like 🥂 🙂

Anything specific you’d like me to show in my next posts? Let me know in the comments!
