Three cards with 2½ sheets of PS I Love You papers

Sometimes I like newly brought out design papers but don’t necessarily want to buy the entire collection. This is why I only bought two sheets of Kaisercraft’s recent PS I Love You (double-sided) collection, so I could still savour their gorgeous new design patterns, wondering what I could make with them.

As it turns out, 2 entire sheets with 2 extra 6×6″ pieces are enough to create three lovely cards, matted on the front, the back and the inside 🙂

So hopefully you find this as encouraging as I – for now you can perhaps also more easily enjoy more of these gorgeous new design paper collections that come out evert month! (yea!)

 

Love & Home Card

Here’s a spring-colored card I made for my friend’s new home, using StudioLight’s lovely Love & Home collection and die-cuts.

Studiolight, ScrapLH02 (12×12″)

I love the Studiolight collections for their lovely themes, the life-like graphics, and the many die-cuts and cutaparts they have available with each paper collection. I’ve done a couple of other projects with some of their collections, and I’m sure I’ll create more in the future.

For now, this card: I used a 12×12″ sheet as a base and built on top of that, mostly with die-cuts but also with some other things, like a very fitting knitting charm – since my friend is an avid knitter. 🙂

This way you can fairly easily and quickly make a beautiful personalized card for someone, which I highly recommend for you can put much love and tender care into a handmade card.

 

 

Tri-shutter Birthday Card for a Guy

Hi all!

Today I’m sharing another idea for a birthday card to send to a man in your life. As for its shape, it’s a so-called tri-shutter card. I cut this one with a special die (by Crealies), but you can cut these yourself as well, just check out my free video tutorial, which I’ll embed again at the end of this blog post for your convenience.

For decoration I used Oxford, a nicely colorful collection by Basic Grey with mostly masculine overtones. I also did some stamping: a circle-shaped Happy Birthday stamp on the front, and some smaller gift-wrapped presents on the other panels which I fussy-cut and then lifted with some dimensional tape. And last but not least a Kaisercraft birthday sentiment which I stamped in two colors on the center panel.

Card for a Guy with A Proper Gentleman

Two Modern Patchwork Cards

I tried out a new die set, called Modern Patchwork, which lets you create your own, well, patchwork of papers. 🙂

I really like the results, these cards were fun to create, give you a totally different look and as a bonus they are perfect to use up those beautiful scraps of paper you’ve got lying around everywhere because you can’t bring yourself to throw them away 🙂

Really Mini File Folio! (Kaisercraft Exchange)

Not too long ago I participated in Kaisercraft’s brand new international snail mail project called Kaisercraft Exchange, which I really enjoyed. You send out anything you created with Kaisercraft products to someone around the world you don’t know, and likewise you receive something – from someone else entirely. Kaisercraft functions as the trustworthy middleman to swap all of the addresses.

It was so, so much fun to participate the first time! So when they announced their second run of this worldwide surprise swap, I was game!

This time I used the Lush design papers, a Kaisercraft paper collection from 2010, of which I had also miraculously still been able to find the rubons. I designed something completely new (well, to me at least): a Mini File Folder, or Mini Collection Folio if you will. I was absolutely engrossed in designing and creating this project, it really scratched all of the right itches for me, especially after finishing a larger project (coming up soon…) 🙂

September Serenity: Three Outdoors Cards (with nature sounds only)

The three cards I’m sharing with you today were made with Bo Bunny‘s Trail Mix collection, filmed in the serenity of my mother’s garden on a sweet Summer’s day 🙂
And those are the actual birds in her garden you’re hearing, even some baby birds crying for their mom and dad to hurry up already bring them something to eat! 🙂

All three cards have their own unique design, so enjoy a moment of pieceful quiet – and while you’re at it, have a nice cup of tea!

My Entry for #kaisercraftexchange!

Last May Kaisercraft announced their Kaisercraft Exchange project, aimed at sending and receiving Happy (snail) Mail to and from people around the world, without knowing anything about them except their name and address.

I immediately signed up, for it’s always a lot of fun to create specifically with someone else in mind!

I chose the Be-You-Tiful collection and designed a new wallet card, to be sent to a lady called Kirstie, in Pacific Pines in Australia (hi Kirstie, hope you’re reading this! 🙂 ) I also added a small a mini album to keep pictures of her loved ones, to keep in her purse.

For both of these designs together I only needed 2 sheets of 12×12″ cardstock and 5 sheets of 12×12″ double-sided design paper (including two cutapart sheets with some lovely sentiments).

I also wrote a 29-page tutorial for the wallet card, which you can find in my Etsy shop for a small price, to help me keep doing what I do.

 

 

Four Summer Cards with Studio Light

I’m a big fan of the Dutch brand Studio Light, which offers, among many things, several lovely 6×6 inch pads which simply consist of different patterns within a certain (combined) color theme. These pads don’t have posh collection names, but are simply numbered 01, 02 and so on. These themeless and therefore relatively neutral pads offer the special opportunity of creating projects with which you could combine almost any embellishment from any collection.

The following four, happily colorful cards I created with Studio Light pad nr. 05, combined with several different embellishments and some cutapart tags and labels from Panduro and Scrapberry’s.

Fun little micro wallet / mini album page insert

Part of the fun of creating mini albums is to design and create a myriad of nooks & crannies for your album to tuck all kinds of niceness into. You could use those spots for tags, photo mats, folded cards for journalling, etc. etc. To add to your inspiration for these kinds of bonus projects for your mini albums, I’m sharing a fun little micro wallet with you today.

You could of course also use it as an alternative card – just put it into an envelop and send it on its merry way 🙂

For this particular booklet I took my inspiration from one of Kathy Orta’s designs, so if you’d like to create one yourself you can check out her tutorial.

Three Double Layout Cards with Raining Cats & Dogs

After two projects (a mini album and a tea box) I’m still in love with working with Graphic 45’s beautifully colored Raining Cats & Dogs paper collection. So I created three cards with this same collection – the 4th of October was, after all, World Animal Day, so hey. 😉

All cards are (what I call) double layout cards, which have layered layouts both on the front and on the inside. Of course you can’t put too much bulk on the inside, but the collection offers plenty of non-bulky ephemera as well, like chipboard, die-cut flowers and tags & pockets.

So here we go, with two dog-themed cards and one aimed at cat lovers. Hope you feel inspired! 🙂

Tutorial: Napkin Fold Origami Card / Mini Album Page Ornament

Recently I showed you my new double-stacked mini album design Celebrate Every Day. On one of its last two pages there’s a special page ornament, a napkin fold origami piece.

Today I’m happy to teach you how to create this piece, and use it as a card instead of a mini album page ornament – so there’s an extra option for you! It’s a free video tutorial, so you can go ahead and create it along with me. 🙂

Here’s the paper supplies you’ll need:

  • 1 piece of cardstock of 30.5 x 30.5 cm (12×12″), or A4-sized (8⅓ x 11¾”)
  • 1 sheet of design paper of 20.3 x 20.3 cm (8×8″)
  • 2 sheets of design paper of 15.2 x 15.2 cm (6×6″)
  • Distress ink
  • Sentiment stamp (or birthday stamp, or…)

The entire card could probably be made in about 1 hour; 2 if you’re taking your time to be meticulous and precise 😉

If you’re going to use it as a card, you can simply create a belly band for it. If you wish to create it as a mini album page ornament, you’ll find instructions on how to create the magnetized closure for it in the mini album tutorial in my Etsy shop.
